Recovery in Barcelona
Le Crémadet – Barcelona
The electrification of the water pump and the senor controlled water level regulation works now and is doing well. After six days at Toni’s place I was happy to go back on the saddle. Because I am not fond of all the holiday homes, the camping grounds and the amusement parks in the Cap d’Agde region I decided to cycle through the Pyrenees and to visit Andorra on my way. Painted streets, the last reminders of the past year’s Tour de France, bright weather and the unique mountain scenery made the pass rides exiting. But as soon as I crossed the boarder to Andorra suddenly everything changed. Beside a lot of bothering traffic I got sick. I fought against vomiting and diarrhoea. Nothing stayed in my stomach, the strength dwindled rapidly and I lost weight. Not even the Chinese would call me fat in the state I am at the moment. The cycling-shorts flutter around my legs… I am not sure about the reason for the illness, but it could be that I made the mistake to drink too much water out of rivers and wells with not drinkable water. You may think I am crazy but I wanted my stomach to get used to the kind of “dirty” water I guess I will have to drink in Africa. Probably I raised the daily does too fast… Doe to, I only made short trips and very few kilometres and watched instead two more football games. Now I am in Barcelona and try to get in shape again. I still have to put some weight on. Food pyramid
As a cyclist I need to put my food pyramid upside down. Several hours of cycling a day uses up a huge amount of energy! For an ordinary breakfast for example I eat 250 gram bread, 100 gram chocolate, 7½ decilitre milk and an apple. During a day I eat two to three times and I often desire salted or very sweet things. Bread, fruits, cheese complement the chips, peanuts or the biscuits and always the chocolate! The pyramid can get a strange shape – for example when you receive half a kilo honey of local production. I couldn’t turn that present down but I was afraid of a broken honey glass in bob’s bag. And if I would have spread honey on a slice of bred each morning this honey would have last up to Kapstadt. So I decided to sweet everything with honey and before the day was over I could visit the glass recycling place.
Flops, bad luck and mishaps… When I was cycling on a “heavy traffic road” I was wondering why I am not afraid of the 40–ton trucks and the cars. The reason is that I never had a bad experience – until now! Three minutes later I pass a car queue as usual on the right side and stop in front of a roundabout. Shortly after me, the Smart driver pushes the pedal too. He however, without being aware of where he was driving. He touches the bob and the trailer transmits the impulse to me. I swing twice between the car and the crash barrier before I get back to my feet. The driver stops, apologizes and bob and I are speechless and fortunately unhurt.
Greetings Adrian
